There’s no secret that the Tampa Bay tarpon fishing season started late. There were several days of just a hook up here or there. Some days we’ve jump 3 or 4 fish and some days we just hope to see a handful of fish during most of the month of May. All that has changed! Big time! Memorial Day weekend brought in a flood of fish! Thousands upon thousands of fish are flooding the passes and beaches. It is truly an awesome site to see!
The last time we had such a slow start to tarpon season, the month of July was incredible. I look for that same pattern to happen this year as well. And in the meantime, June has started off with a bang and the fishing is GOOD!
We’re primarily fishing live threadfin herring and live crabs on fish that aren’t heavily pressured. If you prefer fishing by yourself, without the crowds of boats, the type of fishing we are doing right now is right up your ally! Crystal clear water, tons of fish, and just us fishing them all alone.
