Fireworks aren’t the only thing that’s hit the air this July here in Tampa Bay. Tarpon fishing has been phenomenal!
There’s still time to get on a big tarpon on a tarpon charter in Tampa Bay. I’ll be running Tampa Tarpon Fishing Charters through July. Let me know if you want to catch a 100lb “Silver King”!
What a great tarpon season we’ve had so far! Tarpon are all over area beaches, passes and bridges. The most fun is on the beaches and passes where you can literally watch thousands of tarpon roll, splash, crash and more while you prepare to fight one.
If you’re into BIG fish, the next few months are all about you! No joke! We’ve been getting into some big trout and some REALLY big snook. But they pale in comparison to what we’re about to get into. More on the monsters later in this report…
Snook are showing up in better numbers every year since the bad freeze we had 5 years ago and once we get a streak of warm weather, the bite should really fire off. Redfish are moving around a lot due to the constant weather changes but schools of fish in Port Richey and St. Petersburg have grouped up and started to cooperate. This will only get better through the end of April. Speckled sea trout have been consistantly good in Port Richey and consistently on the large side with fish averaging 18-20″ and fish up to 25″ fairly common.
Man, I’ll tell you what… It’s been a tough last few years for us with snook., We had a deep freeze that killed large percentage of the snook we had here in the Tampa Bay area a few years ago. But, things are starting to really look on the upswing. This late winter/early spring has really shown us how our snook are rebounding.
