Tampa Bay Fishing Report: Pre-Front Feeding Frenzy and Pattern Changes Ahead!
The fish have really been chewing in front of this cold front! It has been an absolutely phenomenal week of fishing in Tampa Bay, with the change in weather triggering an aggressive feeding frenzy that anglers dream about.
Our clients have been experiencing insane action, with many charters landing well over 100 fish this week!
Current Hot Bite: The Pre-Front Feast
The species that are feeding hardest right now include:
- Snook: The Snook have been absolutely gorging themselves. They know the water temperature is about to drop, and they are consuming everything they can, making them incredibly aggressive on the hook.
- Mackerel and Trout: The Spanish Mackerel and Spotted Sea Trout are in an all-out feeding frenzy on the flats and nearshore bars. Their fast, consistent action is perfect for keeping the rod bent all day long.
- Grouper: Even the powerful Grouper are getting in on the shallow action, hitting trolled plugs almost every pass near channel edges and shallower reefs.
Looking Ahead: The Post-Front Pattern Change
If you’re looking to get out this week, we will have some cooler temperatures, but don’t worry—the fish catching shouldn’t stop because of the cooler water and air temps.
The pattern will just change! Once the front passes, fish will move to deep water ambush points, sheltered canals, and sunny, dark-bottomed areas that hold heat. This simply requires a shift in our Tampa Fishing Charters strategy, focusing on different structures and slower presentations.
I have a few days open towards the end of the month. If you want to get in on the action before the major winter shift, now is the time to secure your spot!
