All year long I get phone calls from people wanting to catch tarpon and wanting to know when the best time to catch them is. So I started doing an annual tarpon planning guide. Here’ you’ll find everything you need to know to plan the perfect tarpon fishing charter. You’ll learn the best dates, where to stay while you’re here (if you’re in from out of town), where we’ll be meeting up for the trip and more.

Best Dates:

These dates were picked as the “Best Dates” because the tides predicted for these dates lends them to be good for tarpon fishing. It’s not to say that we can’t have great tarpon charters on other dates but these dates have a star on them in my reservation book because of the stellar tides.

May 2-8, 15-21 and 28-31

June 1-6, 11-19, 28-30

July 1-3, 10-17, 28-31

August 1-2

Places to Stay

Magnuson – Marina Cove http://www.magnusonhotels.com/hotel-details.cf?mpcode=M20121
This is the most convenient place to stay. It’s less than a mile from the pickup location. It’s a pretty nice place (Used to be a Holiday Inn Sunspree resort). It’s on the water and has a pretty cool Tiki Bar/Grill. It also won’t break most people’s budgets.

Don Cesar http://www.loewshotels.com/en/Don-CeSar-Beach-Resort
If you’re looking for a top shelf place to stay this is it. There may not be a better resort in all of Tampa Bay. It’s also within a few miles of the pickup location for tarpon charters.

Pickup Location:

O’Neall’s Marina is where we’ll be meeting to go on your tarpon fishing charter. It’s a great little marina with public restrooms, bait shop and snacks, sandwiches and drinks available.
