August Fishing Report: Hot Bite Continues!
Hot Bite Continues!
August brought some of the hottest fishing of the entire season to our area! The best part is that we have yet to experience our first strong cold front, which would typically trigger the Snook migration back into their wintering grounds in the backwaters. This means the fantastic late-summer action is continuing longer than usual.
Tactics: Switching to Artificials
The August new and full moons marked the perfect time for a tactical shift. This time of year, I can confidently show customers how artificial baits can be just as productive—and often more productive—than live bait. We are spending less time cast-netting and more time fishing, maximizing our success with highly effective soft plastics and jerkbaits.
The Forecast: Nighttime and Afternoon Action
The fishing forecast looks excellent. We anticipate the pattern of daily afternoon thunderstorms will begin to dissipate soon, making afternoon trips and nighttime dock fishing much more enjoyable and productive. Snook are mainly active at night as they feed aggressively under dock lights before cooler weather pushes them out of the passes.
Boat Upgrades for Better Results
To ensure my customers are on the fish, I recently took a few days off to install a second Power-Pole to the boat. This key upgrade, along with a few other technical improvements, allows us to quietly and quickly anchor in shallow spots, ultimately helping us put customers on more fish with less disturbance.
